The city is especially famous for its historic Old Town, which has been on a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 and attracts visitors with its many interesting sights and museums.
Another important attraction is the city wall of Dubrovnik, which surrounds the entire city center for about 2 kilometers. Walking over the wall, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the red roofs and the deep blue sea.
The countless beautiful beaches of Dubrovnik are also unique. During summer vacation, you can enjoy a series of picture book dream beaches with turquoise blue sea, fine pebbles, and fantastic flair.
The many cool beach clubs also provide an exuberant time at the sea. But also, the area around Dubrovnik is worth visiting. One of the most popular spots for an excursion is the offshore island Lokrum, which is under nature protection and can be easily reached by ferry from the old town.
Boat trips to the Elaphites, Mjet, or Korcula are also popular. If you like, you can also take a day trip to Montenegro, only 50 kilometers away from Dubrovnik. Lake Bled is one of the most beautiful places in Slovenia. It is located in the Julian Alps, about half an hour away from the capital, Ljubljana, by car or one hour away by train.
The beauty of the area attracts visitors from all over the world. The most photogenic part is the little island called Bled Island, in the middle of the lake with the Alps as a backdrop.
Visitors to the lake will find a wealth of activities to do. Apart from taking long walks around the lake, you can arrange a visit to Bled Island. You can get there by taking a boat ride with a traditional Pletna boat or renting a rowboat. Once you reach the island, visit the Church of the Assumption of Maria, ring the wishing bell, and climb up the clock tower.
Next, you should head to Bled Castle. The castle is built on a hill and offers beautiful views over the lake and the town of Bled. In the castle, you can find different rooms about the story and significance of the area.
Nature lovers should hike to Ojstrica to capture the most famous view of Lake Bled, best enjoyed during sunrise. The route is not long, around 30 minutes from the trailhead, but you should follow it cautiously as it can be steep at points. Many Dutch villagers indeed have some canal network, but there’s something unique about them. These canals feature tall and narrow bridges because they were built for farmers and their goods.
The bridges are high enough to let ships with hay stacks pass underneath easily. Despite the roads in the village today, you can still explore most of the village by boat. Another common sight in any Dutch town is thatched farmhouses, but some around the village are over 100 years old.
It’s not every day you will see something as old as that! Do you want to see one of the world’s rarest shells? You should definitely head to the Museum Gloria Maris, where you can see the Gloria Maris. The shell is produced by sea snails in the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
Aside from the shell, you can see other shells, jewelry, and decorative items. The village is surrounded by Weerribben-Wieden National Park, one of the Netherlands’ largest national parks.

Cinque Terre is located in northwest Italy, about an hour and a half ride from Genoa. In the past, these villages were isolated fisher villages, where people moved around on foot by pathways or with boats from the sea. Nowadays, these well-known villages are more accessible.
Cinque Terre lies on a 20 km coastal line and includes five villages: Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore. All these villages are known for being quaint fishing villages with rocky shores, peculiar traditions, magnificent landscapes, and hiking trails. Check out these top places to stay in Cinque Terre.
Not to mention that all these picturesque villages, coastal lines, and surrounding hills combine to make it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There will be activities for days. Capri, Italy, is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Located a ferry ride from the Amalfi Coast or Naples, this island is worth visiting. Capri could be a day trip from the Amalfi Coast, but staying on the island is a fantastic experience.
I highly recommend Villa Marina Capri Hotel and Spa. This hotel has the best accommodations in all of Italy! The rooms are big, and the service is even better. You are immediately given a spa treatment and offered refreshments as you arrive. (This is included with your stay.)
The island is split into two parts: Capri and Anacapri. Both sides are absolutely beautiful! On the Capri side, book a boat ride to the Blue Grotto, one of many caves along the coast of Capri.
Once you arrive at the entrance, you will transfer to a rowboat, and an Italian boatman will sing to you as you explore the cave. It is magical! If you love hiking, Anacapri is your next stop. On this side of the island, you can take a chairlift to the top of Mount Solaro and hike down.
The views are magnificent! After all that fun, you will want to head straight to Verginiello, a restaurant that will blow your mind. The locals arrive promptly at 9:00 pm, and the place is packed. 11. Senja, Norway

Senja is a rugged and unspoiled island in northern Norway that is often overlooked in favor of the more well-known Lofoten islands. Senja’s main draw is its breathtaking nature, making it an ideal destination for hiking. However, remember that Norwegian hiking trails are not for the fainthearted, especially if you’re scared of heights.
You can ask for hiking recommendations based on how far you want to go and what difficulty level you’re up for at your accommodation or local tourist information offices. If you have the budget, I highly recommend staying at Hamn i Senja, which has spacious suites with stunning harbor views.
There are some beautiful hikes near the accommodation, and if you visit between May and July, you can take advantage of the never-ending daylight with evening and night hikes. That’s exactly what I did there, and I will never forget the surreal feeling of hiking at 10 PM under the golden glow of the midnight sun.
Suppose you want a day off from hiking. In that case, you can head to the viewpoint at Bergsbotn for spectacular panoramic views of Bergsfjorden and the ocean beyond, drive the Senja National Tourist Route or embrace the slower pace of life by simply sitting and staring out of your floor-to-ceiling window.
Whatever you choose to do, don’t forget your camera, as Senja has got to be one of the most photogenic destinations in the world. The best way to experience Senja is as part of a road trip from Tromsø, the largest city in northern Norway.
After a few days of enjoying Tromsø’s museums and pubs, drive to Brensholmen to catch the ferry to Senja, and then continue the adventure by taking the ferry from Gryllefjord to the Vesterålen islands.

The region of Provence in France is, without a doubt, one of the most stunning places in the world. Its beauty has enchanted countless artists and authors who have tried to encapsulate its appeal on their canvases or through their words.

Visit the Alpilles and the markets at St Remy, take in the Amphitheatre at Arles, and visit the Camargue with its wild horses and flamingos before heading east along the coast to Cassis and the Calanques.
Don’t miss artistic Aix, and the Luberon is a must. If staying in summer, head to the Valensole plateau for the lavender spectacle and then to the Verdon Gorge to cool off with a swim.

The vineyards’ leaves change colors from September through November as the grapes are harvested for that year’s wine. All of this is happening with the stunning backdrop of striking mountains.
The small pueblos that pop up throughout the vineyards in La Rioja are home to some of the world’s best bodegas (vineyards). What makes La Rioja even more impressive is that you can enjoy their world-class wine at budget travel prices because it’s made right there.
On top of indulging in some of the best wines in the world, La Rioja also offers one of the best food scenes in Spain. Logroño, the capital city, is famous for its pintxo, northern Spain’s version of tapas. Calle Laurel is the main pintxos street in Logroño and is lined with around 100 pintxo bars, each serving its specialty pintxo with the world-famous Rioja wine.
When visiting Spain, La Rioja is most likely not atop anyone’s list of places. Interlaken offers different scenic views in different seasons. However, the busiest month for Interlaken is May, when the sky remains clear with bright sun and charming weather.
Winter is also popular in Interlaken among adventure enthusiasts who love thrilling activities like skiing, ice skating, snowboarding, and other adrenaline-pumping outdoor activities.
Interlaken might be small, but to get the best out of Interlaken, I will recommend staying at least three days in Interlaken. There are a lot of places to visit in Interlaken. You must visit the Jungfraujoch, Interlaken’s most popular, scenic, and expensive attraction.
You can reach the top of Jungfraujoch after a 7 km scenic train journey. It is the highest train station in Europe at 11,000 feet. Visitors can enjoy a stunning view of Jungfrau and Eiger from the top of Jungfraujoch.
Grindelwald is a picturesque place in Interlaken; especially for skiers, it is heaven on Earth. Visitors can go to the top (Grindelwald First) via cable car ride. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the mountain slopes, snow-covered peaks, pastures, waterfalls, and lakes. Other outdoor activities include skiing, sledding, and snowboarding in winter. In Interlaken, don’t forget to buy the world-famous Swiss chocolates and cheese fondue.

The Alsace-Lorraine region is located northeast of France, with Strasbourg being its main city. You can reach Strasbourg in around 2 hours on a fast train from Paris.
This region lies just on the border with Germany, and over the last two centuries, it has passed between French and German ownership many times. The result is that the architecture has a distinctly Germanic appearance.
Brightly colored, timber-framed houses adorned with flowers line the narrow, cobbled streets and look like they are straight out of a fairy tale. It is rumored that certain towns and villages in the Alsace region have inspired fairy tale movies such as Beauty and the Beast.
Two of the most beautiful villages in France are located in this region: Eguisheim and Riquewihr. These villages are incredibly photogenic, and you will find Instagram-worthy material everywhere you turn. Still, one of the most photographed places in the region has to be a little house in Eguisheim.
It is on the Rue du Rempart Sud at Les Muses du Rempart d’Eguisheim. Alsace is also a big wine-making region in France, with Riesling being the main grape variety. You will see vines growing on the undulating hills of the region, and you can drive up into the hills to get away from the crowds for spectacular views, particularly over Kayersberg.
Colmar is the best place to stay for exploring the region. There are many hotels and guest houses in the Little Venice area of Colmar as well as a wide choice of restaurants.

The Gower Peninsula is 70 square miles of pure beauty. It juts out into the Bristol Channel from the south side of Wales in a majestic show of limestone cliffs and daffodil-tinted beaches. A jaw-dropping coastal path links the whole thing up.
Particular highlights along the way include the trio of sculpted peaks at Three Cliffs Bay, which loom over a wiggling riverway between oat-topped dunes and bleached sand, and the wide scythe of a beach that is Oxwich.
Eventually, you’ll also reach the sublime head at Rhossili. Llangennith Beach spreads below that in 2.5 miles of windblown shoreline with some of the best surfing in Wales. In summer, smiling fields of sunflowers bloom on top of the cliffs.
They lead straight to the rock pools that link with Worm’s Head, a fantastic tidal island resembling a sleeping Welsh dragon in the Atlantic Ocean. Inland in the Gower means encountering ancient Iron Age hill forts and scrambling up the heather-clad ridges of Cefn Bryn. Doing the latter affords sweeping views over the sands to the south and the wide estuary to the north.
Photo-worthy stop-offs are everywhere, but some of the best include the pebbly cove of Pwlldu (something of a local secret) and the picturesque pastel cottages of Mumbles Village (also great for ice cream and a coffee between adventures). It’s hardly a wonder this place was one of the UK’s first-ever designated areas of outstanding natural beauty!

19. Costa del Sol, Spain

Costa del Sol is one of the most picturesque destinations located in Southern Spain. Costa del Sol is formed by the coastal towns, including the capital, Malaga. It’s the perfect place if you love warm weather, beaches, culture, and food.
But Costa Del Sol has many activities as every town has something to offer. If you’re looking for crystal blue water beaches, Nerja is definitely where you must go. If you want a luxurious shopping experience, you must visit Puerto Banus in Marbella. And if you’re interested in culture, the capital is your place.
The options are endless, so knowing how long and where to stay isn’t easy. As a local, I can tell you that Torremolinos or Benalmadena are good locations to stay as there are plenty of activities in these towns and it’s easy to travel to other towns.
If you’re staying in Benalmadena, visit Castillo de Colomares, a beautiful hidden gem castle and the perfect spot to take Instagrammable pictures! However, if you want to stay in less touristy but beautiful towns, I would check Torre del Mar and Mijas.
The best way to explore Costa del Sol is by car if you don’t want to rely on public transport. Also, although public transport is quite good, there are some places you can’t access by bus or the travel time is not ideal.
Lastly, many tourists make the mistake of not staying for long in Costa del Sol or staying only in one town instead of traveling to discover incredible places. Therefore, I recommend staying a week at least, and if you’re wondering which towns are worthy, these are a must: Malaga, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Mijas Pueblo, Marbella, Nerja, and Antequera.

One of the world’s most beautiful places to visit is Grand Canyon National Park. It’s located in Arizona in the United States and is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and makes for an iconic Southwestern vacation for any traveler.
It is the deepest canyon in the United States as well as one of the deepest canyons in the world. It is truly a sight to behold. This canyon is so grand because it took millions of years to carve the mighty Colorado River into what it is today.
When visiting this canyon, visitors will find plenty of things to see and do in Grand Canyon National Park. For example, one of the most popular things to do is to look down into the canyon cliffs from any one of the viewing points around the canyon.
Depending on which viewing point you are looking at, you will get vastly different views. Aside from that, visitors are also able to walk along the rim, encountering much different wildlife living around there. Or, if you want a grander experience, visitors will be happy to know that they can even go down into the depths of the canyon riding a mule.

21. Hood River, Oregon

Hood River, Oregon, located less than an hour from Portland, is within the Columbia River Gorge. Breathtaking sights are found in every direction, with Mount Adams to the north and Mount Hood to the south. It’s also the Pacific Northwest Wine Country, with more wineries than you could have time to visit.
Imagine sipping wine on a temperate summer day, looking over the mountains, and smelling fresh lavender from nearby farms. You can spend an entire day driving the Fruit Loop, a 35-mile scenic loop of orchards, breweries, fruit stands, wineries, alpaca ranches, and more.
With the mountains at your back, you can pick apple and berry varieties you’ve never heard of before, enjoying them in the sunshine. On your way back, you can stop at Panorama Point, looking at the entire Hood River Valley.
You can also enjoy days at the Columbia River – a nearly half-mile sandy beach that extends almost to Washington. Hood River is the Windsurfing Capital of the World, and it’s the perfect place to rent equipment and take a quick lesson. If that’s too extreme, you can paddleboard, swim, or enjoy dinner at a food truck as you watch the sun disappear behind the mountains.

La Jolla is located along some of the prettiest stretches of coastline in Southern California. With its rugged and rocky coastline, gorgeous beaches, and elaborate homes built into the hills, you could almost mistake it for a charming Mediterranean town.
There’s truly a photo opportunity around every corner! It’s full of charm and luxury, from clifftop vistas to outdoor art installations. The highest point in La Jolla is Mt. Soledad, and the ocean views are 360 degrees and divine.
You can see the National Veterans Memorial at the top for miles and even to Mexico. It’s a fantastic place to watch the sunset; many say it has the best views in San Diego. The view from the beach is equally as beautiful, and La Jolla has ten different beaches to choose from. You can snorkel with leopard sharks, explore sea caves by kayak, take a surfing lesson, or go tide pooling.
La Jolla is also known for its seals and sea lions, which love the sun on the rocks and put on a show for visitors. Easily walkable, it’s in the middle of all the action and filled with rooftop patios, outdoor dining, pet-friendly shops, and boutiques. As for hotels, it doesn’t get more La Jolla than the La Valencia Hotel, a pink Meditteranean-style beauty that’s stunning and beachfront with fantastic views.
A few can’t-miss things to do when you visit La Jolla are the Torrey Pines State Reserve for hiking, and the Torrey Pines Gliderport hang-gliders leap off the clifftops. La Jolla is one of the most memorable places you’ll ever visit and a true gem of San Diego.

When it comes to beautiful places around the world, few are as famous as Banff National Park. Located in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Banff is a place to enjoy the great outdoors. Banff National Park isn’t small; however, for those looking to explore the park, you can thankfully stay close to the action in Banff town, which is located within Banff National Park and is a must-visit!
From the main streets in Banff, you can stare up at the surrounding mountains, enjoy fantastic craft beer, and even relax in the Banff Upper Hot Springs. It’s a bustling mountain town filled with amazing restaurants and bars.

Northern Arizona is the perfect area to explore on a US road trip anytime, although summer is the most popular. Sedona, Flagstaff, Grand Canyon, and Page, Arizona, are the best spots to visit in Northern Arizona.
Sedona is the southernmost city in Northern Arizona and is the perfect introduction to the fabulous red rocks! Don’t miss Cathedral Rock, Devil’s Bridge, Slide Rock State Park, and Seven Sacred Pools, with natural water pools carved in the rocks. Sedona is known for its relaxing spas and spiritual community. Moving north, you’ll hit Flagstaff, Arizona, a great base to see the legendary canyon, as it’s just over an hour away.

Kauai is the northernmost of the Hawaiian Islands, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. It might not be the first island tourists think to visit, but it is undoubtedly one of the most Instagrammable destinations on Earth.
Kauai has earned the nickname of The Garden Island because so much of the island is covered with jungle. The island’s center (uninhabited and impossible to reach by land) is one of the wettest places on the planet. Erosion from the annual rainfall has helped to shape the legendary Waimea Canyon. Kauai has a very laid-back vibe and a much slower pace than some of the more populated Hawaiian Islands.
You’ll spend most of your time lounging by one of the many scenic and relatively undeveloped beaches, hiking, riding a bike along miles and miles of coastline, or partaking in adventures on the island’s wilder side.
However, you will need to take a helicopter or boat tour to see the true beauty of Kauai. This is the only way to see and experience the iconic Na Pali Coast, which you will recognize from many Hollywood movies because of its stunning, untouched beauty.
All of the towns on Kauai run along the east coast, from Princeville in the north to Koloa in the south. They each have a different flavor, but it takes at most 2 hours with traffic to traverse them all, so there is no wrong place to stay when you visit the beautiful Garden Isle.

The Blue Ridge Mountains are located in the eastern United States, extending 550 miles from southern Pennsylvania through Georgia. The Blue Ridge is aptly named for its distinctive bluish color resulting from an organic compound released into the air by the specific trees and plants in the area.
The mountain range contains two major national parks: Virginia’s Shenandoah National Park and Tennessee’s Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
These two national parks and the eight national forests within the Blue Ridge provide endless trails for hiking, fishing, mountain biking, and camping. The area is also known for the Appalachian Trail, the longest hiking-only trail in the world.
The Blue Ridge also contains the Blue Ridge Parkway, a 469-mile scenic highway along the crest line of the mountain range. Sedona, Arizona, dubs itself “The Most Beautiful Place on Earth,” and people from all over the world come to experience its mesmerizing splendor, soul-nourishing outdoor spaces, and healing power.
You’ll want to follow this Sedona itinerary if you plan on visiting. You see, the red rock formations that poke their heads up throughout the community are said to possess curative energies. Even before the 16th century, Europeans found their way to this place; ancient people were attracted to the red rock’s power and gathered here for healing ceremonies.
Today, visitors to Sedona, located in the Southwest USA, 117 miles north of Phoenix, can see remnants of picturesque prehistoric dwellings with spiral petroglyphs depicting ancient journeys.
Sedona is surrounded by the Red Rock District of Coconino National Forest, and many fabulous Sedona resorts have trails that lead right out into what is called Red Rock Country. If you feel ambitious, you can take a hot air balloon ride to see the breathtaking red rocks.

28. Hierve el Agua, Oaxaca, Mexico

Hierve el Agua is what Instagram dreams are made of. Located about 90 minutes south of Oaxaca City, it is one of the most popular things to do. The feature is a reflective infinity pool surrounded by verdant valleys and mountains. The water bubbles up from the ground and is full of rich minerals known for healing.
As the water slowly flows over the edge of the pool and down the cliff face, the minerals have collected over thousands of years to form a petrified waterfall that looks as if it has been frozen in time. It’s one of only two in the world and an amazing site in and of itself.
After you’ve soaked in the pool and pondered over the unusual rock formations in the ground, enjoy one of the nearby hikes for spectacular views of the waterfall from a different angle.
Getting to Hierve el Agua via Mitla is easy, or plenty of tours will take you there while stopping at the other highlights. But if you want to have the place to yourself (and get the best pictures), you should consider staying overnight.
There isn’t much to do in the rural town of San Isidro Roagua, but the natural beauty is in the peace and solitude of Hierve el Agua after the tours leave for the day.

Negril is a small heavenly beach resort town located on the western coast of the Caribbean island of Jamaica. It is about a 75-minute drive from Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay. Even though it is one of the furthest areas of Jamaica to get to, it is worth it!
It affords the picture-perfect Caribbean views we dream about with white sand beachfront, crystal clear water, and tons of swaying palm trees. Our favorite adults-only resort is Couples Negril. It is the perfect escape from life’s daily stresses.

Punta Cana is one of the most popular and beautiful holiday places in the entire Caribbean, and it’s so much worth going there. Endless beaches, a gorgeous ocean, friendly people, and many amazing places to explore are just some things you can experience in the Dominican Republic.
While many people go on guided excursions to just a few places, you can discover so many hidden gems in Punta Cana when wandering off the beaten track.
One is Montaña Redonda, a unique mountain with a spectacular 360-degree panorama surrounded by lush mountains and untouched nature. What makes Montaña Redonda stand apart are its giant swings and cozy hammocks.
Both are set up right at the mountain’s edge, allowing for stunning photo opportunities you can’t get anywhere else. To get to the top, take a safari truck up the hill (less than 10 minutes) or a short but steep 30- to 45-minute hike, allowing for additional views (and a sweaty workout).

31. Sleeping Bear Dunes, Michigan, USA

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, located along the west coastline of Michigan, is a spectacular destination for tourists, photographers, trail hikers, and dune-climbing enthusiasts!
These scenic dunes are nestled between the small towns of Empire and Glen Arbor, Michigan, along M-22. Several spots along the dunes offer birds-eye views of Lake Michigan’s sparkling shoreline, long stretches of sandy beaches, and Glen Lake.
Most notable is Pierce Stocking Drive, a curving roadway featuring a covered bridge, picnic spots, dune hikes, and dune overlooks. Visitors will need a park entrance pass that can be purchased for the week or annually. The pass can be purchased at the entrance to the dunes or online with the National Park Service. Sleeping Bear Dunes is also a popular hiking destination.
The Empire Bluff Trail, located in Empire, is a 1.5-mile hike that leads the hiker through a dense forest that eventually opens up to an incredible view of Lake Michigan and the sweeping dunes.
For a more ambitious trail, the Bay View trail is 7 miles long and winds through old farm fields and pine plantations. There are several lodging options while exploring Sleeping Bear Dunes. Hotels are available in Glen Arbor and also Frankfort, Michigan.
The Homestead Resort is a popular hotel in Glen Arbor as there is a pool and the hotel has incredible water views. If camping is more your style, the Platte River Campground has some great shady campsites close to the trails. There are also kayaking opportunities on the scenic Platte River.

32. Havasu Falls, Arizona, USA

Havasu Falls is one of the most Instagammable waterfalls in the US. It’s one of the most desirable destinations due to its blue-green waters and rusty color of rocks.
It’s a hidden gem in the Grand Canyon area, in a deep gorge of Havasu Creek, Arizona. How to get there? The waterfall is located in the territory of the Havasupai Indian Reservation.
You must buy a permit to get to it, which is not easy due to limited places. The sale of permits starts on February 1 of each year. The only way to the waterfall is a 10-mile difficult and demanding hike down the gorge.
Close the Havasu Falls is a campground. A permit is only allowed for three nights. And you must pay for 3, even if you want to stay for one or two. Furthermore, when purchasing a permit, you must accept the rules of the Havasupai Tribe, like no alcohol, no drugs, no drones, no sports in the waterfalls, and no photos of Indians.
Havasu Falls is the most famous and visited of the various falls along Havasu Creek. It consists of one main chute that drops over a 90-to-100-foot (27 to 30 m) vertical cliff into a series of plunge pools.
But there are five main waterfalls of Havasu Creek that you can visit during your stay. Fifty Foot Falls, Little Navajo Falls, Mooney Falls, and Beaver Falls are the other four. Each is spectacular and breathtaking.
You can hike to each of the waterfalls from the campground. The most demanding and dangerous hike is to Mooney Falls. The furthest from the Havasu Campground is Beaver Falls, 3 miles one way.

33. Lagoon of Bacalar, Mexico

Lake Bacalar, also known as the Lagoon of Seven Colors, is one of the most tranquil and breathtaking places I’ve ever seen. It is situated in southeastern Mexico, about 20 miles from the border with Belize.
In terms of tourist attractions, there is not much to see (apart from a Spanish stronghold), but I’d recommend you stay for a few days to enjoy nature and calmness. The name of the town Bacalar comes from a Mayan expression that means “the place where the sun rises.”
This poetic name will be no surprise if you see the dawn breaking over the lagoon. All the sky’s shades of yellow, pink, and orange are beautifully mirrored in the clear waters. The relaxed atmosphere and views make the perfect setting for yoga and meditation.
A boat trip around the lagoon is a must-do. You can take the boat from the pier at La Playita, a popular local restaurant. In a few hours, you will immerse yourself in Bacalar’s full beauty among dreamy blue and turquoise hues.
On the other side of the lake, you can stop in a muddy area used as a natural spa. The mineral-rich mud exfoliates the skin and relaxes muscles and joints. Back from the boat trip, you can savor a meal at the restaurant.
La Playita has a varied menu with many delicious options. Swimming in the lagoon is bliss as the water is fresh and warm. You can also explore the lake on a kayak or a paddleboard. If you enjoy diving, Cenote Azul is the perfect spot for you, just a couple of miles away from Bacalar.

The twin-island nation of St Kitts and Nevis in the Caribbean West Indies is the smallest country in the Americas and one of the most beautiful places on Earth.
It is often dubbed “the Caribbean” because of the laid-back vibes found throughout both islands and the reluctance to commercialize the islands for tourism. Don’t be fooled by their tiny size, though, because there are plenty of things to do on St Kitts and Nevis.
From the many beautiful beaches to choose from the white sand and black sand beaches to hiking in the rainforest past waterfalls to reach the Mountain peaks of both islands, there is something to suit everyone.
For Instagram opportunities on St Kitts, visit the Brimstone Hill fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and frolic in the battlements. Or head to the top of Timothy Hill viewpoint for a stunning picture of the narrowest part of the island and views out over both the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea.
Visit the capital city of Basseterre and admire the historic colonial-style architecture and the beautiful churches around the town, grab some barbeque food from the local vendors around Port Zante, and spend a relaxing afternoon in the open green space called Independence Square.
On Nevis, the botanical gardens offer ample Instagram opportunities and a team that visit the natural hot springs for the ultimate relaxation. Stay at one of the old plantation houses turned boutique hotels and learn the history of the sugar trade and the role St Kitts and Nevis played.
No trip to Nevis would be complete without visiting The Hermitage for the oldest rum punch in the Caribbean and Sunshine’s Bar on Pinney’s beach for a famous Killer Bee cocktail.

Volcan Tajumulco is not only the highest mountain in Central America but also offers one of the most beautiful views in Guatemala! Tajumulco itself may not look very aesthetic, and the hike is nowhere near as popular as the one on Acatenango to watch El Fuego erupt.
But once you’ve seen the spectacular views from the top, you will wonder why many tourists skip Tajumulco. Tajumulco is located in Western Guatemala in the department of San Marco, near Quetzaltenango (Xela). Xela is a popular destination among travelers to study Spanish, making it the perfect place to stay and organize your hike from.
The only way to reach the top of Tajumulco is by foot, and that’s a long way to the 4,220 meters (13,845 feet) high top. The hike itself is reasonably challenging.
The high altitude and the need to bring all your camping gear add to the challenge. Technically, it is possible to hike Tajumulco in one day, allowing you to leave the camping gear behind.
However, you would miss the two most beautiful settings from the top: sunset and sunrise. I would highly recommend you stay near the top overnight. This will allow you to watch the sunrise as you arrive on the first day.
The clouds slowly rise while the sun sets and get the perfect shot. On the second day, you capture the sunrise over at least six different volcanoes visible from Tajumulco’s summit.
The only disadvantage is that you must wake up before dusk and hike the last toughest and steepest part of Tajumulco in the dark. However, the breathtaking view you get in return is well worth the effort!

The unique formations and vibrant colors left me speechless, and I highly recommend it as a must-see destination within the park.
Another jaw-dropping spot is the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The canyon showcases red-tinged walls and breathtaking waterfalls, like the Lower Yellowstone Falls. To truly appreciate the magnitude of the falls and the canyon’s beauty, I suggest visiting the multiple lookouts and viewpoints that offer different perspectives on this incredible feature.
For those interested in the park’s geysers, aside from Old Faithful, the Norris Geyser Basin is certainly worth exploring. Its steaming vents, bubbling mud pots, and erupting geysers present an otherworldly landscape that offers a peek into the geological forces beneath our feet.
Yellowstone National Park is, without a doubt, a natural treasure in the USA. Visiting this beautiful national park is an experience that cannot be forgotten, and I urge travelers to take the time to appreciate its unique wonders.

I enjoyed visiting the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve in Costa Rica during my travels. A wonderful blend of adventure and natural beauty, the reserve delivers an unforgettable experience for those looking to explore and appreciate the wonders of this nation’s lush forests and rich wildlife.
Upon entering the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, I was immediately captivated by the surreal atmosphere created by the constant shroud of mist enveloping the area. The Monteverde region’s location in the Cordillera de Tilarán mountain range exhibits incredible biodiversity ripe for exploration.
As an adventure seeker, I found that this region of Costa Rica offers many hiking trails for all levels of experience. The terrain is diverse, ranging from well-trodden paths to rugged inclines challenging even the most experienced hiker. The reward is unrivaled views of the verdant landscape and glimpses of the more than 400 bird species that inhabit the area, including the resplendent quetzal.
The wildlife spotting opportunities at the reserve were astonishing. During my time there, I was fortunate to encounter various species of monkeys, sloths, coatis, and even the elusive jaguar. These encounters only heightened the feeling that I was truly immersed in this magnificent rainforest.
One highlight from my time in the reserve was an early morning guided tour, where a knowledgeable local expert shared fascinating insights about the flora and fauna that call this forest home. The tour also provided a unique opportunity to observe nocturnal creatures like the kinkajou and meet fellow travelers passionate about adventure and wildlife.
With refreshing weather and a warm, hospitable community, it’s easy to see why this area and Costa Rica, in general, have earned a prominent spot on many travel bucket lists. I consider this a favorite destination for anyone looking to explore the captivating beauty of Costa Rica.

Patagonia, Chile, offers some of the most beautiful places in the world to visit and photograph. One of the most spectacular places in the country is Patagonia. Even within Patagonia, there are so many options for places to visit, road trips to take, and areas to explore that it is a challenge to come up with an itinerary that fits it all in. But Torres del Paine does not disappoint.
You may get lucky and see a puma on your hike; keep your distance but get that spectacular photo from afar. Unless you have time for a multi-day road trip, it is best to fly into Punta Arenas and rent a car.
Considered one the most beautiful spots in the world, Parque Nacional Torres del Paine lies within Patagonia in southern Chile. It offers many hiking trails, including the W Route, and shorter day routes featuring breathtaking views of the soaring mountains.
If you’ve had a long travel day, we recommend staying nearby, then proceeding to the park the next day. Within the park, there are more limited options. A good recommendation is the Rio Serrano Hotel + Spa.
You have many options, from boat rides, hikes, horseback riding (highly recommend), and climbing. Consider Cuernos Lookout, Salto Grande, Laguna Azul, Salto Lake, and Lago Nordenskjold for day hikes. The Lago Grey and Grey Glacier boat rides are also recommended.
The windswept mountains and lakes are like nothing you’ve likely seen before, just gorgeous. For the more adventurous, you can hike the W Route, spending several nights along the route. You must reserve this quite ahead of time as space is limited.
A visit to Patagonia would not be complete without heading further south, so head back to Punta Arenas. Enjoy a tasting at Austral Brewery (Cerveceria Austral, book ahead) and consider booking a trip to Isla Magdelena, an island inhabited only by penguins.
The boat trip there is spectacular, but seeing the penguins is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. This trip can usually be booked in Punta Arenas a day or two ahead.

Especially the dresses that the women wear are very colorful. Staying the night in one of these villages is a great way to learn more about their culture and daily life in the canyon.
The Colca Canyon trek is quite challenging. The Colca Canyon is twice as deep as the more famous grand canyon. Therefore the hike includes a steep climb in and out. The change in altitudes also means you come across a variety of landscapes. From green farmlands to deserts.
There is also a unique flora and fauna. Most Colca Canyon treks include a stop at the Cruz del Condor at a dizzying 3,400 meters altitude.
Here you will see the Andean condor fly through the canyon below. These birds are among the world’s biggest and most majestic sights.
You might also see alpacas or vicunas on your way from Arequipa to the Colca Canyon. So whether you like to see culture, mountains, wildlife, or nature, you will not regret a visit to the Colca Canyon.
41. Central Andes Mountains, Peru

The Central Andes Mountains hold one of the most famous ancient ruins in the world: Machu Picchu. Trekking this range leaves you in awe. In just a few days, you can climb high up near snowy peaks and then back down into the high, cloud rainforest on the east side of the range.
This journey to these iconic ancient ruins is known as the Salkantay Trail, but other shorter versions exist, like the Inca Trail. While the Salkantay Trail will take you 4,600 meters (15,000+ feet), the actual height of the mountains is even more staggering.
The Andean range crosses the entire South American continent and peaks in Argentina at almost 7,000 meters (~23,000 feet). As you might expect, there’s more to see in the central Andes than just Machu Picchu.
You can also see Rainbow Mountain, known for its beautiful natural range of colors against a deep blue sky. This is another incredible hike in the region. Getting around the Andes take time, but travel further, and you’ll find Lake Titicaca in Puno, Peru.
The Milky Way stretched wide and far, with too many shooting stars leaping across the black sky to count. So much of the Andes is rugged, practically untouched beauty and is truly one of the most extreme inhabited environments in the world.
While these sights are popular bucket list items for many travelers, the Andes Mountains amazed me for their impressive diversity in ecology, ranging from steamy jungle to chilly mountain peaks.

Nestled in the foothills of the Andean Mountains on the Nahuel Huapi Lake, San Carlos de Bariloche is a city in the Patagonia region in southern Argentina. While Patagonia is notorious for its unspoiled natural landscapes, Bariloche offers a wider range of things to do and see.
The city center has a European vibe thanks to the Swiss-style architecture, making it an enchanting place to explore on foot. Since it sits on a lake and is not a big urban metropolis, it feels more like a small town than a city. Bariloche is also a fantastic foodie destination.
It’s known as the Argentinian capital of chocolate and ice cream, so it’s packed with chocolate and ice cream shops, and the main street (Mitre) always smells like melted chocolate.
Although the city is a great place for carnivores, you can also find plenty of Italian restaurants and other vegetarian-friendly places to eat. There are also enough bars if you’re looking to have a fun night out.
Outside Bariloche, you’ll find many places to enjoy nature (even if you’re not a hiker) and outdoor activities such as kayaking, biking, and rafting. From the Cerro Campanario viewpoint to the Llao Llao Municipal Park to Cascada de los Duendes (a lovely little waterfall), all these places are easily reachable by public transportation.
You can also relax at one of the lake beaches near the city or take the famous one-day road trip to Ruta de los Siete Lagos, which passes through seven beautiful lakes. Stay at the central Tangoinn Downtown, suitable for both budget and mid-range travelers.

Caye Caulker is generally not very big (it extends over almost 1.8 km), so you can reach every spot on the island on foot or by bike. On the island, you can see sweeping palms, colorful wooden houses, hammocks, pelicans, and small boats in the water.

Sossusvlei is a national park in the west of the country and is a 4-hour drive from its capital Windhoek. It is home to the most stunning dunes as part of the Namid Desert, yet it is known for its stunning vleis.
These vleis hold mysterious old acacia trees against a backdrop of orange dunes and white clay soil. Sossusvlei is the Vlei the national park is named after, but Hidden Vlei and Dead Vlei are much more beautiful.
It is especially spectacular during sunrise and sunset, so book your stay with the state-owned NWR inside the park. The NWR offers both lodges and camping spots.
The dunes are also worth your time, though you might want to climb only one. Dune 45 is 45 kilometers from the entrance gate and is the most popular during sunrise. Though Big Mama and Big Daddy are much higher, fewer people climb those dunes.

The Blue Moon Valley in China’s Yunnan Province is as cool as the name sounds and is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in the world. Not only is it one of the most beautiful places in China, but it’s also very easy to reach. A series of ice-blue lakes and ponds, cascades, and waterfalls is one of the most scenic in China and is deservedly popular.
It’s so beautiful that it’s amongst China’s revered AAAAA sights, which means it’s one of the best. The Blue Moon Valley is a very easy half-day trip away from the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the ancient city of Lijiang.
Lijiang has more than enough accommodation for every taste and budget. Regular minibusses leave from the Mao statue in Lijiang and reach the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain scenic area in about half an hour.
To get the best snaps, get there first thing in the morning while the light is good and the hordes haven’t arrived yet. Because it’s an AAAAA site, it’s deservedly popular. If you’re looking for that perfect shot for the gram, you could sit on an albino yak atop a cascade with an ice-blue lake and snow-capped mountains in the background.
Or perhaps you want to pose in a traditional costume of the local Naxi people. All of these are readily available and quite popular. You can take stunning pictures in any direction you point your camera, but the best spot is probably at White Water Terrace at the uppermost lake.
Exploring other scenic spots, such as taking the gondola to the glacier of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, the Yak and Spruce Meadows, or the Jade Water Village after visiting the Blue Moon Valley. You, your camera, and all your followers will love Blue Moon Valley.

A trip to Sri Lanka wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the small town of Ella in the Central Highlands. Set high in the mountains and surrounded by jungle and lush tea plantations, the cooler weather is a welcome change to the humid coastline.
The town is most famous as the starting point for the train, which weaves its way from Ella to Kandy and is considered one of the most spectacular train rides in the world. But there are plenty of other reasons why Ella is one of the most beautiful places to visit. Tucked away in the mountains outside of town is one of the most impressive man-made Ella landmarks, the Nine Arch Bridge.
Built in 1921, the moody grey brick arched bridge spans over 90 meters and is surrounded by green jungle. Arrive in the early morning to see the mist rising up and over the bridge; if you are lucky, you can see the Kandy train crossing the bridge too.
Much of the terrain around the town is planted with tea, and visiting one of the nearby tea plantations and factories is a great way to capture one of the quintessential images of Sri Lanka. The lush green shrubs are methodically planted and picked, weaving beautifully across the landscape. For the adventurers, a hike up Ella Rock or Little Adams Peak offers great views of the surrounding area.
Or venture a little further out of town to explore some of the pretty waterfalls like Diyaluma or Ravana Falls. As Ella is no longer a secret, the best places to stay are a little out of town, set back amongst the hills. It has to be said: Petra is probably one of the most beautiful and possibly most Instagrammable destinations in the Middle East. And there is no surprise why it was voted one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
Honestly, it doesn’t get much prettier than this rose-colored city from 400 BC, which is carved into a cliff face. There is, of course, far more to this busy tourist destination than the most commonly photographed Treasury.
There is enough to keep you busy for several days if you want some true adventure and off-the-beaten-path magic. Simply do a little further research and find the tracks or hikes that suit the type of travel you lust after.
For example: for a unique and quieter experience of the Treasury, hike the cliff opposite to get a bird’s eye view from above, or take the many steps up to the Monastery.
But for a truly unique experience, wander the surrounding mountains and explore the many caves and smaller intricate dwellings. Petra is a travel photographer’s mecca.
Another popular thing to do is visit the Treasury by candlelight; the experience is beautiful. If you are flying into the international airport of Amman, remember that there will be a 3+ hour drive to reach Petra.
And then a 30-minute walk from the entrance to the Treasury. We recommend staying at the Mavenpick Resort Petra if you want to be direct across from the Visitor Center and entrance to the site.
The best tips are to take good walking/hiking shoes and be the first to get to the Treasury in the morning. It means an early start, but it will be worth your while.

Wandering in the streets of the district of Gion will allow you to enjoy the beauty of traditional wooden houses. But you also might spot a few geishas, those highly skilled famous Japanese entertainers.
Higashiyama is another beautiful typical Japanese district of Kyoto to walk in. Additionally, you can go to the wonderful Fushimi-Inari Taisha Shrine. In this temple, you will find an impressive path with hundreds of traditional Torii Gates dating from 711!
Another original place that is worth the visit is the bamboo forest. In Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, you can walk in the middle of soaring bamboo stalks. Some of them are up to 30 meters high!
Kiyomizudera temple is a great place to discover. Founded in 780, this temple is famous for its wooden stage, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Kyoto.
Last, you can admire Kinkakuji, aka the Golden Pavilion. This zen temple covered in gold overlooking a large pond is fantastic. A great place to stay in Kyoto is the Granbell Hotel. This boutique hotel has an ideal location in the district of Gion and romantic rooms.

Just a 30-minute ferry from Bali is Java, an island in Indonesia with unspoiled nature, underrated destinations, and boasting some of the country’s most amazing tourist spots.
And the east side of Java has to be the most impressive part of the island. Indonesia’s most spectacular waterfall, an acidic lake, and an active volcano surrounded by a sea of sand are located on this land.
Ijen Crater Lake is the world’s largest acidic lake on the easternmost side of Java. The best way for this adventure is to reach the crater in the dark and hike up for around 2 hours, and back down into the crater where the miners are at work mining sulfur.
Here is where you will see the mining process resulting from a blue flame burning created by sulphuric gases. If you arrive in East Java by ferry from Bali, the next stop is Tumpak Sewu Waterfall or Mount Bromo.
You can reach Probolinggo, the closest city to Mount Bromo, by train from Banyuwangi. Most visitors that go to Ijen spend the night in Banyuwangi. Mount Bromo is an active volcano in one of the most stunning landscapes.
And the sea of sand surrounding Mount Bromo and other volcanos makes for a landscape scene unlike any other. The experience of walking up Bromo through the fine sand while the volcano spits smoke out of its mouth and finally walking on the ridge of a rumbling volcano is one of East Java’s most amazing adventures.
Further south of Bromo is Indonesia’s most impressive waterfall. Tumpak Sewu, in Indonesian, translates to “1,000 falls.” And there couldn’t be a better way to describe this epic cascade. It’s a hollow hole with cliffs around 120 meters high and cascades of water. Tumpak Sewu is stunning from above.

But also the famous Tegalalang rice fields or the UNESCO-classified Jatiluwih rice fields. Don’t forget to experience the local culture in one of the beautiful and photogenic temples on the island. And if you want to swing above rice fields or a waterfall, your dream can come true in Bali!
There are several swings where you can experience this. Despite Bali being a small island, it’s hard to travel from one place. So if you want to see the north and east coast of the island, the best option is to book different accommodations. For example, in Canggu or Seminyak, explore the southwest coast.
Or add Uluwatu if you want to explore the south coast and its beautiful beaches longer. Then head to the Ubud area for the rice fields, climb Mount Batur, and visit some waterfalls and temples.

Phander Valley is another must-visit in this region that’s something straight out of a fairytale. Bright blue lakes and rivers are set against green pastures and snow-capped peaks. It’s more peaceful than other valleys and was my favorite spot in all of Gilgit-Baltistan.
And to get off the beaten path in a valley over 3,300 meters, you should take the bumpy yet rewarding journey to Chapursan, the most remote hamlet in the entire territory. Remember that trekking is a major highlight of this region, so it’s unsurprising that they also possess some of the most epic views. The Nanga Parbat (the 9th highest mountain in the world) Basecamp Trek might sound intimidating, but even novice trekkers can take it on.
The Rakaposhi Basecamp Trek, which begins in the village of Minapin, is another excellent choice for some of Pakistan’s best vistas. To reach Gilgit-Baltistan, you have three options.
You can take an overnight bus from Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad, which will take about 17 hours, cross the beautiful Shandur Pass from the town of Mastuj, which will lead you right into Phander Valley, or you can even fly to Gilgit if you so choose.

There is no doubt that Wadi Rum is one of the most beautiful places in the world. This stunning valley in the south of Jordan is called the Valley of the Moon.
The incredible landscape in Wadi Rum has made it a favorite among filmmakers when shooting scenes set on Mars, for example, in movies such as The Martian, Red Planet, or The Last Days on Mars. But it’s also often used to represent fictional planets in science-fiction movies.
The desert scenery, with its warm golden and reddish tones with no towns or cities in sight, makes Wadi Rum a place where you can leave behind everything and immerse yourself in the beauty of the place.
The valley has several breathtaking canyons, rock formations, and rock bridges. And if you’re wondering about the human history in this place, you will be surprised at the inscriptions suggesting that caravans passed through the wadi in ancient times.
The best thing to do in Wadi Rum is a desert tour with a jeep and a Bedouin guide. The Bedouin families in this part of Jordan are extremely knowledgeable about the desert and will lead you to the best places to enjoy the red dunes and see the sunset.

It’s a real shame that Oman is an underrated country. I believe it’s one of the most beautiful places to visit. I have seriously contemplated moving to this Middle Eastern gem. Traveling here was truly an eye-opening experience, and I am grateful I discovered how amazing Oman is! There are a lot of reasons to fall in love with Oman.
This place is rich in natural beauty – beaches, mountains, breathtaking deserts, diverse flora and fauna, and well-protected nature reserves. This country is unknown to many people, so there’s no competition with crowds or tourists when visiting beautiful locations.
And, of course, Oman is filled with compassionate, friendly people who will never fail to make you feel welcome. When it comes to things to do, there are plenty of great options, whether you want to explore nature or experience Oman’s rich culture.
You can make several day trips from the capital, Muscat. I want to mention Wahiba Sands -the most visited dune in the country. It can be a wonderful experience to camp overnight in the desert as well as go dune-bashing. I think it’s a perfect place to do yoga and meditation too! A new scene unfolds in Muscat at night, so it’s best to have both day and night tours in one day.
Some enjoyable things you can do in Muscat at night: watch opera or ballet at the Royal Opera House; taste Arabian treats on the narrow streets of Ruwi; head to Mutrah Souq for fancy shopping; want to go for a mindful stroll solo or with friends in the evening? Mutra Corniche is a nice place!

Just keep in mind that El Nido is fast growing to the demands of tourism, so be mindful of your actions and the impact they might have. Support genuine local businesses and keep your ecological footprint minimal. Besides that, don’t forget to soak in the sun and the spirit of El Nido.

The spectacular east coast of Tasmania is one of the most beautiful coastal drives, with something different popping up at each turn. The east coast can be accessed by starting from Hobart and reaching Coles Bay at the southern end of the coast. Alternatively, you could start from Launceston and drive east.
Both these drives will take about 2 to 2.5 hours each. The best base to explore the east coast is St Marys, a small village midway between north and south. There are several reasonable B&Bs to choose from.
Freycinet National Park, a peninsula of granite mountains, is surrounded by eucalyptus forest, beautiful beaches, and turquoise blue bays. Here, there are several trails and scenic drives. The most spectacular of the bays is Wineglass Bay, which involves a hike to be rewarded with awesome views.
At the northern end of the east coast lies the stunning Binalong Bay and Bay of Fires, so named because of rocks covered with bright orange lichen that looks striking in daylight, with their contrast against the turquoise of the ocean water.
Bicheno Blowhole and St. Columba Falls, which are Tasmania’s tallest falls, are also worth visiting. The east coast is probably the most visited and scenic part of Tasmania.

There are many things to do on Bruny Island, involving nature, top-class food, and wine. Hiking is great, with South Bruny Island National Park taking up most of the island’s southern end.

If you want to make the best of it, go on the bush walk to Hill Inlet Lookout. The views from there are stunning! You can also opt for a scenic flight. It’s a great way to see the islands, Whitehaven, and the Great Barrier Reef.

The Great Ocean Road is one of the world’s best road trip itineraries. Spanning 243 km, this coastal stretch of road can be found in Victoria in Australia, and should be added to your Australian bucket list.
The Great Ocean Road was the idea behind a man called Howard Hitchcock, and it was built by returning Australian soldiers from World War II. It was dedicated to the soldiers who built this road and fought in the war, making the Great Ocean Road the world’s biggest War Memorial.
The start of the Great Ocean Road can be found in Torquay, famous for being the birthplace of surfing brands like Rip Curl and the famous Bell’s Beach Rip Curl Pro annual surfing competition.
A stop you must make on this road trip is Teddy’s Lookout, a lookout point that showcases the beauty of the Great Ocean road. The view spans for miles and features deep turquoise ocean views.
The Twelve Apostles are the busiest and most famous attraction along the Great Ocean Road. While I love the views and landscape here, enjoying it with many tourists is hard. I would recommend coming closer to sunset.
Loch Ard Gorge was my favorite part of the Great Ocean Road. I think it’s far more beautiful than anything up to this point. Loch Ard Gorge became famous after a shipwreck that happened here.
The water in this area is so clear and blue that it’s hard to believe it is real. There are many areas and viewpoints to explore here, so take your time and don’t rush through it.
There are many options for staying along the Great Ocean Road, from camping to hotels and rentals. I recommend staying in the town on Lorne as it is a mid-way point, and the Great Ocean Road needs more than a day to explore.

Fun things in Mount Cook include many short walks and hikes. The most popular is the Hooker Valley Track due to its easy access along the Hooker River, suspension swing bridges, and incredible mountain and lake scenery.
If you have money to spend, you can book a heli-hike where you can fly in a helicopter and land on the Tasman Glacier for the ultimate hiking experience.
Alternatively, you can ride a boat that takes you up close and personal to some large bright blue floating icebergs in the Tasman glacial lake. Mount Cook is also part of a designated International Dark Sky Reserve, making it an ideal stargazing spot.
To explore the national park, you must be in Mount Cook Village (approximately halfway between Queenstown and Christchurch). There are only a handful of hotels and hostels, so you must book your accommodation well in advance during the summer peak season on the South Island.
The Hermitage Hotel is the most famous place to stay, with rooms offering majestic mountain views, but if you are on a budget, then the YHA is a fantastic and highly-rated hostel.

67. Wanaka, New Zealand

If you are looking for one of the most Instagrammable destinations in New Zealand, then you definitely can’t go past Roys Peak in Wanaka. It is an incredible viewpoint overlooking Lake Wanaka and the Southern Alps mountain range.
View for days. It really cannot be beaten. The hike to Roys Peak has challenges, namely the steep uphill track to the top. Unlike many tracks in New Zealand that are a beautiful journey through bush and mountains, this is a hard slog up a 4WD style track. It is relentless, unsheltered, and completely exposed to the elements.
It can be freezing and snowy in the winter and a sweltering hike during the summer, so you do need to be prepared with food, water, and clothing no matter what season you visit.
The famous Instagram viewpoint is not quite at the peak of Mt Roy, so whatever you do, do not stop here. Spend 30 minutes hiking the summit as the views get even better.
While you are in beautiful Wanaka, there are lots of other incredible activities, such as taking a Wanaka water taxi out to Mou Waho Island, taking a beautiful yet far easier walk to the Blue Pools, or in the winter, there are three great ski fields in the area, all with amazing views too.

My favorite place, and soon yours, is Queenstown in New Zealand. You’ll understand why as soon as you fly into their international airport. Queenstown sits at the head of Lake Wakatipu and is surrounded by multiple towering peaks.
It almost feels like the area could be part of the fjord lands by how the mountains climb up directly from the lake into the sky. Because Queenstown is a major tourist destination, it’s also set up very well for excursions of all types.
You can enjoy skiing in one of the multiple resorts in the winter, or in summer, head down the Shotover River on a high-speed exhilarating jet boat. If you want to escape the crowds and snap some shots of the beautiful landscapes, you can head down the lake towards Glenorchy, a sleepy little village taking you directly into the mountains.
It’s also the start of one of New Zealand’s Great Walks, the Routeburn. The tracks and trails offer the opportunity to get lost in wildlife, so be warned! Lastly, you can’t go to New Zealand and not see some of Lord of the Rings’ backdrops. Many scenes were filmed in the Wakatipu basin area, so if you ever have deja vu, the location may have been on a film somewhere along the way.
There are many options when looking for places to stay, from hostels to high-end resort spas. Whatever your budget, you’ll find something for you. The same can be said about the food too. Many top chefs choose to live in the area for the lifestyle, so you’ll be sure to find an Instagrammable meal or two in town.

This magical place is the ice continent of Antarctica. Most people visit Antarctica by taking an expedition cruise from Argentina across the Drake Passage. The ship is your home as you cruise by sea ice and icebergs. Be sure to keep an eye on the horizon for the blowhole of a minke or humpback whale. It’s easy to feel like you’re on another planet when visiting Antarctica.
