Ski & Sip: The 8 Best Bars In Jackson, Wyoming

Skiers from around the world know where to go to get their fix: Jackson Hole. The area’s three ski resorts – Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Snow King Mountain, and Grand Targhee – offer some of the best terrain in the country. Beyond the slopes, Jackson Hole’s nightlife is legendary, and many say this small town has the best après-ski scene in the country. After a long day on the mountain, visitors head out to enjoy cocktails, brews, and live music at some of the best bars in Jackson, Wyoming.

If you’re looking for a dance floor, killer happy hour deals, outdoor dining, or just a warm place to eat after skiing, you can find it here. Each of these watering holes draws a different type of crowd, ranging from rowdy to mellow, and it’s worth visiting each one if you have enough nights to do so.

There are two main areas where you’ll find these hangouts – in town, or in the village. It’s easy to travel between the two – just hop on a START bus and you can get around for just $3 a ride. While most spots are walkable from town or from the village, The Virginian, Eleanor’s, and the Stagecoach are outliers. You’ll likely need a car, taxi, or rideshare to get there.

Address: 5755 W, WY-22, Wilson, WY 83014

The Stagecoach is a bit out of the way, technically located in Wilson, on Teton Pass Road. It’s a great spot to enjoy Jackson Hole’s more elusive local culture. If you love live music and want to spend the night dancing, this is a must-visit – particularly on disco night every Thursday. The Stagecoach band has played every Sunday for over 40 years, and their happy hour specials are hard to beat.

Not only will you have fun dancing, listening to music, and sipping on drinks from their full bar, but you’ll love the crowd. The Stagecoach draws a local crowd since it’s a little harder to get to if you’re staying in the village or in town without a car.

Come spend the night making friends, ordering drinks, and partying at the coolest hidden gem in Jackson Hole, whether you’re here in the winter or summer.

3. Million Dollar Cowboy Bar – Best Dance Floor

Address: 25 N Cache St, Jackson, WY 83001

What is there to say about the Cowboy Bar that hasn’t been said by literally everyone who’s stepped foot in the Jackson Hole valley? You’ll find this iconic place packed every night year-round, but the après-ski crowd is always the rowdiest.

Find a seat at the counter (where the stools are all western saddles) or grab a table if you’ve got a group – and get ready to dance. There’s nothing quite like the wild Saturday nights at this legendary landmark right on the Jackson town square.

There’s an impressive selection of domestic and imported beers, plus a handful of craft brews, ciders, and seltzers on the menu. The magic of the Cowboy Bar is that it hasn’t really changed much since it opened, and you’ll find yourself drinking in a sea of tourists and the occasional local who isn’t yet too jaded to enjoy this hokey and lively western saloon.

There’s live music on stage every night of the week, and the cover charge is well worth it for a Jackson experience that’s one-of-a-kind. Come grab a drink, listen to the music, and find yourself at the most iconic nightlife spot in Jackson Hole.

Address: 50 Glenwood St, Jackson, WY 83001

The Historic Wort Hotel is a downtown Jackson icon that takes up an entire block of Glenwood Street – you can’t miss it- and in both summer and winter, you can expect the Silver Dollar Bar inside the hotel to be filled with a mix of locals and skiers.

The hotel is one of the nicest in town, and it’s a favorite of people who are in Jackson Hole to try out Snow King, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and visit the park. It’s conveniently located just steps from the town square and features one of the best happy hours in the area.

The Silver Dollar Bar is a great place to eat, drink, and enjoy live music. If you’re hungrier, grab a table for dinner service and enjoy a meal of classic finger food like wings, nachos, and burgers.

The crowd at the Wort is always ready to rock and throw back a few brews after a day on the slopes or in the park. Bluegrass Tuesdays are a big draw all year long, and on other nights of the week, you can find local and visiting musicians on the Silver Dollar Showroom stage.

5. Dornan’s Spur Bar – National Park Scenery

Address: 12170 Dornans Rd, Moose, WY 83012

When most people think of skiing in Jackson Hole, their minds go right to Teton Village or Snow King, and cross-country skiers are overlooked. Not all visitors realize that Grand Teton National Park is open year-round. Though many of the roads may be closed to vehicles, you can still enjoy the fresh air and see park landmarks like Taggart Lake on a snowshoe or nordic ski tour.

Before you leave the park, you’ll want to stop for a meal and a drink at Dornan’s. Dornan’s Pizza and Pasta is one of the only places that keeps a full menu during winter in the park itself, and Dornan’s Spur Bar is a great place to grab a beer or cocktails with friends after an excursion into the wilderness. You’ll also find gas and a small general store at the complex.

The Spur Bar is always packed in the summer, but if you visit in the off-season, you’ll have a lot more room to make yourself at home. If you want to enjoy an unforgettable view, step out onto the patio and enjoy a view of the Cathedral Group mountains.

There’s another Spur Bar in Teton Village, at the Teton Mountain Lodge, so be sure you’re heading to the right one if you’re looking for the one that’s most convenient to Grand Teton National Park.

Address: 7680 Granite Loop Rd, Teton Village, WY 83025

Don’t be intimidated by the fact that the Handle Bar is located at the Jackson Hole Four Seasons – you’ll find that this casual terrace joint is welcoming and inclusive to all. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy cocktails and apps after a day skiing in the Village, it’s hard to top this patio with sweeping views of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Despite its incredible, one-of-a-kind location, you’ll find the food and drinks are reasonably priced (for Jackson, of course) and the burgers are always delicious. You’ll also find locally-inspired dishes, like elk chili, to pair with a craft brew or cocktail.

While a night here isn’t quite as wild as some other Jackson Hole nightlife hotspots, it’s the perfect bar for anyone who wants a delicious dinner, outdoor seating, a beautiful view, and some of the best drinks in Jackson.

7. The Virginian – Best Karaoke Night

Address: 750 W Broadway, Jackson, WY 83001

The Virginian is one of the best bars in Jackson, hands down. This longstanding landmark is on the outskirts of town, but it draws a huge crowd for Wednesday Night Karaoke. While other places in Jackson Hole brag about their house bands or visiting musicians, The Virginian knows that the best music is music that you can sing at the top of your lungs.

If you swing by on another evening, you’ll find the Virginian draws a quieter crowd of locals that want to enjoy a couple of drinks and good food after a long day on the mountain or at work. The Virginian Lodge itself is a popular place to stay in Jackson Hole, and it has a great restaurant, too. Though the lodge has changed owners and was recently renovated, it still shows off the welcoming atmosphere and valley charm we’ve been enjoying here for years.

8. Eleanor’s – Local Pick

Address: 832 W Broadway, Jackson, WY 83001

Eleanor‘s isn’t packed with a ski crowd or known for serving fondue, so it’s hard to call it a wintertime hot spot. This well-loved dive bar is a must-try if you want to hang with Jackson locals in the evening and skip the tourist crowds. There’s a liquor store in the front, and the small restaurant is in the back.

Despite a smaller space and smaller crowd, the food served up here is big on flavor, and you’re sure to end the night with a few friends, even in a town full of locals that are a bit notorious for being hesitant to share their hidden gems with visitors.
