There are plenty of ways to get up close and personal with this natural wonder. Walk along hiking trails by the Niagara Gorge or ride on either the Journey Behind the Falls or a Maid of the Mist tour. You’ll never run out of options for experiencing it firsthand.

The best time to visit Niagara Falls is early spring or early October if you want to avoid heavy crowds. I visited Niagara Falls in the middle of winter for some epic arctic photos, but I wouldn’t recommend it because I was freezing despite being bundled up. It’s not for the faint of heart.

You can visit Niagara Falls from the United States, valid, but the best views are from the Canadian side.

9. Go Sky High With the Skylon Tower

When visiting Niagara Falls, no trip is complete without taking in the views atop the Skylon Tower. This iconic tower soars 775 feet from the base of Niagara Falls.

By climbing the tower, you can check out the view of the Bridal Veil Falls, the American Falls, and the Canadian Horseshoe Falls. At the Observatory, you can see up to 80 miles in all directions on a clear day.

13. See the Wildlife at Marineland

This is a must-do when visiting Niagara Falls. Take a scenic ride through the Niagara whirlpool rapids, and feel the water spray on your face as you go.

The ride takes about 45 minutes and is offered from April to November. As soon as you step onboard, you’ll be whisked off to 3,500 feet above the Niagara Gorge and its famous falls. 

Riding the Aero Car is quite budget friendly as opposed to other attractions. Children 12 and under ride for $11.50. Anyone 13 and over can ride for $17.50. Considering the ride offers free parking, and you get incredible views plus photo opportunities, it’s so worth it.

15. Set Sail on the Niagara Hornblower Cruise

If you’d like to get up close and personal with the roaring Niagara Falls, we recommend setting sail on the Niagara Hornblower Cruise or The Maid of the Mist. 16. Spark Your Curiosity at the Schoellkopf Power Station Ruins

Niagara Falls was once a significant hydropower power source. Schoellkopf was constructed in 1905 and continued until 1924. It was once the most prominent electric plant in the world.

The elevators at the bottom of the tower give visitors access to the gorge and is the boarding point for the Maid of the Mist boat tour. The tower was built in 1958 and restored in 2001. This makes it a part of New York’s extraordinary architectural history.

When you visit Niagara Falls, there are many attractions for all ages. Bird Kingdom is the world’s largest free-flying indoor aviary. Near the beginning, there’s a small museum and a chance to see some reptiles.

The attraction is a must-see for animal fanatics. Kids and adults alike will love walking through the aviary and seeing tropical birds in their natural habitat.

Bring your camera as you trek through the rainforest. There are lots of phenomenal photo opportunities. I’ve visited the aviary a few times, and each time was a fantastic experience.

If you’d like to get up close and personal, there is a bird-feeding encounter for an extra fee.

35. Stay at the Hilton Niagara

The Hilton Niagara has many amenities, including an indoor pool, fitness center, hot tub, laundry service, and more. I stayed at Hilton Niagara before it was so luxurious. The beds were plush and comfortable.

Not to mention the views from the hotel room were magnificent. Although winter isn’t the best time to visit Niagara Falls, it was pretty cool to see the Arctic landscape.

Eat your heart out because the hotel has four onsite restaurants. Feast with a view at the Watermark Fallsview Dining. Enjoy live music and pub fare at the Spyce Lounge.

If you plan to leave the hotel to eat, I highly recommend checking out My Cousin Vinny’s. Their carbonara is to die for. It’s so creamy.

Plenty of nearby attractions will keep you busy, including the Maid of the Mist, the Skylon Tower, and the Great Wolf Lodge indoor waterpark.

36. Experience Cave of the Winds

Don’t just see the falls, wear them too! You can get up and close to the Bridal Veil Falls at Cave of the Winds. If it’s a hot summer’s day, the waters from the Hurricane Deck will cool you down.

This cave is a natural formation directly behind the Bridal Veil Falls. There’s an elevator that takes you 175 feet down.

Hopefully, you brought your poncho because prepare to get drenched on the Hurricane Deck. Cave of the Winds is a must-try experience if you visit Niagara Falls, especially for thrill seekers.
