Some of our favorite food options are Ron Gastrobar Indonesia, Cafe Loetje, and the iconic bakery Bakker Out, which has been there since 1918. In that very location, they’ve been baking bread since the early 1600s(!).

Another great stop if you’re biking (particularly with kids) is Rembrandt Hoeve, a clog maker, cheese factory, and farm. It’s a great place to stop to grab a souvenir from the Netherlands to bring home, and it’s very much a local’s spot. It’s not directly located in the town center of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, but roughly at the halfway point between the Ouderkerk and Amsterdam.

For me, the best option is to rent a bike or cruise down the picturesque landscape enveloping the Amstel River and prepare to be mesmerized by the remarkable views of the classic Dutch countryside of North Holland. Discovering this near-ethereal beauty makes the day trip to Ouderkerk aan de Amstel a treasure well worth uncovering.
