Free & Cheap Things to Do in Las Vegas
1. Drink for free
If you sit in a casino and gamble, even if you sit at a slot machine for a while, you will be offered free alcohol by the servers. The casinos want you to get sloshed and spend all your money, so they are willing to make the trade of a few bucks in liquor.
Some casinos will offer better and more frequent drinks than others too. Spots like the Bellagio, MGM Grand, and Cosmopolitan are rumored to have some of the best.
While we don’t recommend getting drunk on the casino floor, if you want a few free cocktails, sit down at a slot machine for a while, and a server will appear. Be sure to tip them to keep the drinks coming – start with a higher amount and then tip at least $1 for every additional drink. It is cheaper than buying them from the bar, especially on the Las Vegas strip.

2. Last-minute show tickets
If you want to see a show and save money in the process, don’t buy tickets online. Wait until the day of the show and hit up a VEGAS.com booth which are scattered around the Las Vegas Strip.
Tickets are often half the price of will-call or online tickets, and you can get tickets for many of the strip’s fabulous shows. This includes Cirque du Soleil, the Blue Man Group, resident musical performers, and any number of magic or comedy shows.
You can also drop by any box office for shows you want to see. Be there at least two hours before the show on the same day for deeply discounted tickets that haven’t sold.
Remember that buying tickets at the last minute may impact your party’s ability to sit together. Seats may also not be in the best sections of the audience, but at least they’re cheap.

3. Take the monorail
Taxis are a way of life in Las Vegas, much like in NYC. However, much like the New York subway system, the Las Vegas Strip has a very convenient monorail system linking many main hotels along the Strip. Seven stations along the monorail route include the Paris Hotel, the Flamingo Hotel, and Harrah’s Las Vegas.
The monorail has single-ride and weekend tickets, so you can take it multiple times a day if you plan to grab a buffet, shop, and see a show. There are also a few free shuttles offered by the monorail system and some hotels to take you back and forth to nearby hotels. These free shuttles can conveniently get to your show or club destinations.

4. Visit the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign

Las Vegas is known for its cheap entertainment, gambling, and overall excess. The neon capital of the world is, understandably, introduced to visitors via The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign is arguably the most famous of the cheap Vegas attractions. This iconic landmark has come to represent the city as a whole.
The Welcome to Las Vegas sign was designed by Betty Willis in May 1959 and erected shortly after that near the top of Las Vegas Boulevard. It stands 30 feet tall and is adorned with flashing neon lights.
Visitors can take their pictures in front of the sign for a small fee, and it has become one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. If you’re looking for a cheap souvenir or photo opportunity, the Welcome to Las Vegas sign is the perfect place to start your trip.

5. The Toy Shack

6. Miracle Mile Shops

Originally opened as Desert Passage in August 2000, Miracle Mile is one of the free things poised for a whole day of adventure. Centrally located, it’s easy to get anywhere from this mall. Though it no longer has its Moroccan theme, you could easily embrace the local desert setting if you wanted to.

It even features the famous sky-painted ceiling, gondola rides, and St. Mark’s Square re-creation.

Carnaval Court is the perfect place to people-watch or enjoy a cold drink on a hot day. You have to pay a cover charge, significantly less than tickets for other musicians along the Strip. Fellas, you’ll pay more than the ladies — be warned.

9. Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Garden

The Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens are among the most beautiful free, and cheap things to do in Vegas. The 14,000-square-foot Conservatory is open year-round, but it is wonderful when the flowers bloom in the spring and summer.
There are annual special shows with spring, summer, fall, and winter themes. There is also a special exhibit for each Lunar New Year celebration.
So even if you’re a return visitor, there’s something new to see. We highly recommend this free attraction for families as well.

10. Pinball Hall of Fame

The Pinball Hall of Fame is a non-profit museum dedicated to the history and preservation of pinball machines. The museum houses over 200 pinball machines from the 1950s to the present day, making it one of the largest collections in the world. 11. Lake of Dreams at Wynn Las Vegas

12. Seven Magic Mountains

The mountains are situated in the desert, providing a stunning contrast to the natural landscape. Visitors can hike to the top of the hills for an up-close view of the artwork or enjoy the view from afar.
Either way, Seven Magic Mountains is a unique and unforgettable experience. The cost to visit is free, but there is a parking fee.

13. Admiring unique Las Vegas houses
Exploring the neighborhoods is one of my favorite free and cheap things to do when I visit anywhere. That’s especially true in a place like Vegas, which has many unique properties. The Simpsons House, for example, looks like it popped right out of your television set.
Just meandering around a city gives you a better idea of life, especially someplace like Vegas. You can’t get to know it if you never leave Las Vegas Boulevard. While seeing the homes is easier with a rental car, you could also rent bikes if you’re up for the heat.

14. Fun Dungeon at Excalibur

Are you looking for a cheap, family-friendly, and cheerful way to spend a knight in Las Vegas? Then head to the Fun Dungeon at Excalibur! This quirky arcade is perfect for anyone wanting to enjoy some retro fun. The Fun Dungeon includes over 200 games, including arcade games, sports-themed games, and even some carnival games.
Admission fees include unlimited gaming and laser tag. And if you get hungry, there’s even a food court with Dairy Queen and Orange Julius. Whether traveling with kids or simply looking for a place to let loose and have fun, the Fun Dungeon at Excalibur will surely please.

15. Visit The Mirage Aquarium

The Mirage Aquarium is not like the massive one at Mandalay Bay. This free attraction behind the concierge desk at The Mirage Hotel houses 450 fish across 80 worldwide species. While you won’t be able to spend a day or even an afternoon with this activity, it is a terrific short stop for young kids.
Mirage’s 20,000-gallon saltwater tank houses angelfish, puffer fish, and tangs, among other undersea critters. This tank adds to the prestige of the hotel lobby and is considered one of the most elaborate and technically advanced in the world.

16. Atlantis Aquarium

The Atlantis Aquarium at Caesars Palace is a great place to visit for a cheap day out. There is plenty to see, with over 300 tropical fish and other aquatic creatures.
If you visit with kids, they’ll love seeing aquarists feed the first twice daily. These scheduled dives take place at 1:15 and 5:15 pm.
Seeing the 50,000-gallon aquarium itself is free. Though you can also sign up for a free below-the-scenes tour of the aquarium’s support facilities on weekdays at 3:15 pm. Once you’re done, you can wander the rest of the Forum Shops at your leisure.

17. Get a player’s card
A player’s card is a loyalty card offered by casinos to encourage you to gamble at their establishment. They track your gambling and comp you with freebies, including free drinks, show tickets, meals, and even hotel rooms.
If you plan to gamble in Vegas, sign up for one of these cards! It only takes a few minutes at the player’s club desk, and they will hand you your personal casino rewards card. Be sure to use it every time you gamble to rack up the points.

18. Search for happy hours
Finding good food deals in Las Vegas can be tough, but if you walk around, you will find some happy hours with decent eats and great prices. It can feel particularly difficult to locate a happy hour in Vegas when every hour seems happy.
Some of our favorites include the Triple 7 Restaurant and Microbrewery at Main Street Station, which offers $7 burgers and beers every day from 3:30 pm – 7 pm. If you are in the mood for French cuisine, head to Mon Ami Gabi at the Paris Hotel from 4-7 pm on weekdays and 2-5 pm on weekends.

19. See Bellagio Fountain Show

The Bellagio Fountain Show is one of the most popular free and cheap things to do in Vegas. These shows entertain millions yearly, consisting of water jets, lights, and music.
Seeing the fountains is free in front of the Bellagio Hotel and Casino. These shows occur every half hour from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on weekdays or noon to 8 pm on Saturdays and then every 15 minutes from 8:00 pm to midnight on Saturdays.
The best views for this show are on the sidewalk on the south side of the Bellagio. There, you’ll have an unobstructed view of the entire show. And, if you time it right, you can even catch a glimpse of the fountains while driving or riding down the Las Vegas Strip.

20. Take a walk down the Las Vegas Strip
One of the best things about Vegas is that it’s an entirely walkable city. So taking a stroll down the Las Vegas Strip is a great way to experience all the city offers.
Make no mistake; however, this isn’t a short jaunt. The Strip is over four miles long from end to end.
Still, if you feel ambitious, start at one end of the Las Vegas Strip and go down, stopping at famous casinos and hotels. Be sure to check out the Bellagio fountains, the Venetian canals, and the Eiffel Tower at Paris Las Vegas Hotel.
Don’t forget to stop for free concerts or hop to the New York-New York Hotel to ride the Big Apple Roller Coaster. The coaster is one way to see Vegas from a new perspective.

21. Visit Fremont Street
Fremont Street is the original Las Vegas Strip and is now home to Fremont Street Experience, a large canopy with over 12 million lights. The light show runs every hour from dusk until midnight. This vintage side of Vegas is like going back in time with a twist seeing some of the original hotels that made Sin City so famous.
Underneath the canopy, you will find a number of bars, casinos, restaurants, street performers, and live music. This is a great spot to visit at night when the temperature has cooled down, and you want to enjoy some outdoor activities.

22. Visit Hershey’s Chocolate World

Located in front of the New York-New York Hotel and Casino on the Strip, Hershey’s Chocolate World is the sweetest shopping destination in Vegas. This shop is a smorgasbord of photo opportunities with a store fit for even the biggest chocoholic to enjoy.
Inside you’ll discover over 800 kinds of Hershey products. You’ll find giant chocolates, Twizzlers, and Reese’s products. There is even a wall full of Hershey’s Kisses dispensers with a rainbow of adorable chocolates.

23. Visit the Mob Museum

Visitors can also learn about the law enforcement officials who have worked to bring down organized crime and the victims of these crimes. The museum is located in downtown Las Vegas and is open daily from 9 am to 9 pm.

24. Watch a movie at Red Rock Casino
You don’t have to spend much money in Vegas to enjoy a good movie. The Red Rock Casino in Las Vegas has a movie theater perfect for travelers on a budget.
With regular ticket prices, you won’t be taken to the cleaners to see the latest Hollywood blockbuster in the world’s entertainment capital. The theater is located inside the casino, so you can enjoy all the other amenities the casino has to offer before or after your movie.
There are also restaurants and bars nearby to make a night of it. The theater shows both new releases and classic movies, so there is a wide range of options to satisfy multiple desires. Ticket prices vary between screen types (like IMAX or 3D).

25. Go on a hike
Hiking in Las Vegas may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of the city, but there are actually a number of great trails to explore. And best of all, it’s a cheap way to enjoy the outdoors. There are trails to suit all fitness levels, from easy strolls to more challenging hikes.
Some of the most popular trails include Red Rock Canyon and Mount Charleston. The canyon is just a few miles from the Las Vegas Strip and offers stunning views of the desert landscape. Mount Charleston, meanwhile, is perfect for those looking for a more challenging hike.

26. Attend a pool party
Looking for a cheap way to beat the heat in Las Vegas? Then head to one of the city’s many pool parties! These events are usually public and feature DJs, food and drink vendors, and plenty of fun in the sun. Most hotels have at least one pool party per week during the summer months, so you can find one that fits your schedule.
And since they’re usually held during the day, you can still enjoy all the nightlife that Vegas offers afterward. Some of the most popular include Rehab at Hard Rock Hotel, Wet Republic at MGM Grand, and Tao Beach at The Venetian Hotel.
While most of these parties have a cover charge, you can often find discount tickets online or by talking to your hotel concierge. Sometimes you can find free pool parties at hotels as well.

27. Take a Gondola ride

28. Visit the Neon Museum

29. Go to Fashion Show Mall

This massive shopping mall is a whopping two million square feet. Inside you’ll discover over 250 shops and 30 restaurants. It is one of the largest shopping malls in the country, showcasing retailers that will please value shoppers and luxury shoppers alike.

30. Mermaids in the Silverton Casino

The Silverton Casino is home to the only mermaids in the city. Visitors can view the mermaids as they swim in their 120,000-gallon aquarium for free. Mermaids are scheduled to perform Thursday through Sunday at certain times, so check the schedule when you arrive.
Silverton Casino is also home to a number of other attractions, including a mermaid school, ten eateries, the casino, and live entertainment for both hotel guests and visitors. Don’t forget to stick around the aquarium for the stingray feedings too!

31. Play tourist and visit all of the hotels
One of the best things about Las Vegas is that you can experience a different country (or even continent) without ever leaving town. Hotels like the Venetian, Bellagio, and Caesars Palace transport you to Italy, France, and Rome. And that’s just the beginning.
Showstoppers love the MGM Grand, movie buffs adore Planet Hollywood, while New York-New York offers a glimpse of big-city Americana. You can’t get more NYC than the delightful Big Apple Roller Coaster. Frequent Disney World visitors will appreciate the similarity of hotel hopping in Vegas as they would when visiting the big cheese in Florida.

32. Go to a spa
After a long day of exploring Las Vegas, nothing is better than unwinding at a spa. Vegas is known for its high-end spas, but there are plenty of cheap options if you know where to look.
For example, many of the hotels on the Strip offer discounts if you book your appointment in advance. You can also find affordable spa services at some of the city’s many nail salons and beauty parlors.
Even a few public spas offer reasonable rates if you’re on a budget. If you want something truly unique, head to Qua Baths & Spa at Caesars Palace, which features Roman-style baths and an outdoor pool area with amazing views of the Strip.

33. Spend a Day at Lake Mead
Located just outside of Las Vegas, Lake Mead is one of the largest man-made lakes in the world. It is a popular spot for boating, fishing, swimming, and several nearby cheap accommodations like the Lake Mead Inn. The lake famously suffered record low water levels in 2022, though it is on its way to stability again.
Lake Mead is a reservoir of the Colorado River that is perfect for recreation all year round. Campgrounds start at just $20 per night, and staying here is an excellent way to see the natural wonders surrounding Vegas.

34. Take a day trip to Hoover Dam
The Hoover Dam is perfect for those looking for a relatively inexpensive yet instructive day trip from Las Vegas. Rising 726 feet above the Black Canyon floor, the dam was constructed to distribute water from the Colorado River during the Great Depression.
Today, it still serves as an important source of hydroelectric power for the Southwestern United States. Visitors can take a self-guided tour of the dam’s interior or a more in-depth tour that takes them behind the scenes.
The Hoover Dam is open for tours daily, and there are a number of different tour options available. If you are short on time, we recommend taking the express tour, which includes a 30-minute film and access to the observation deck.

35. See the Volcano at The Mirage
